Alan, a native of Wisconsin, studied fine arts at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee before moving to New York City to study at the New York School of Interior Design. After completing his formal studies, he worked for Clarence House, the foremost stylesetter in the decorative fabric industry, and in 1976 he co-founded Madderlake Flowers in Manhattan.

In 1989, Alan and his wife returned to Wisconsin where he founded Alan Boehmer Design,

incorporating his passion for floral and fabric design into his business. Good design and practicality are the nucleus of his business. Alan takes pride in ensuring that his design work reflects the personality and vision of the client whether it is a personal home, a vacation retreat, a personal or corporate event, or a corporate space. He accomplishes this by collaborating closely with each client, ensuring design excellence within the client's vision.
